I trying to challenge myself (I’m not a guy that loves to solve 500 piece puzzles) but I do see some positives (perhaps) in the pseudo-PBX called Asterisk. The problem is there isn’t much resources in how to implement it (because you know IT guys – zero heart, very arrogant, always redirects you to a search engines and also insists that you should all be good to go post install.) I have an ESXi server configured run test versions of Asterisk.
My endgame is this:
- Install 2 different machines to run Asterisk (for the idea of redundancy/and attain four-nines reliability)
- Install the operating system, the Asterisk snap-in (which really what it is), and the FREEPBX graphical environment (if you guys are older than 30 – you probably know that was what Windows once was!)
- Deinstall or deactivate ANY non-IPT/VOIP applications or extensions – like what does GIMP have to do…
