VoIP, or Voice Over Internet Protocol, is a system which allows the send of real-time audio communication over IP networks, i.e. the Internet. In a traditional telephone system, calls are directed through an in-house PBX system. With VoIP, calls are made through TCP/IP using routers and networks. So, instead of using regular telephone lines, VoIP uses the existing network and the internet to place and receive calls.
